Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, if you must. The weekly hours are for stations that air the weekly series. Also, about once a month we'll offer all stations one of the weeklies-- an hour connected to a holiday. Those will be on PRX for a charge (PRX points). However if your station wishes to start running the series, but not every episode, this is allowed. The 6-month no-charge for the series, though, begins when you first start airing the hours, whether weekly, or cherry-picked.
No charge for the 2008. Partial charge for 2009: about $300-$3K yearly fee, based on station size. Full charge for 2010: about $600-$7K. Below are the costs by Total Station Revenue (TSR). Stations do not have to be NPR members to broadcast series. (If cost is a problem, contact us: we will work out a deal.):

5 Promo 0:30

Always. We remove the words "f@#k" and "sh%t" and several other terms. We do not use anything the FCC would deem "sexually explicit language" or "describing excretory activity."
However, the current atmosphere in public radio makes it necessary to go further for some stations, to flag content that might make even a single listener uneasy. So even if there is no question as to the legality of content, we will provide station with the times of content in our hours they may want to evaluate, particularly if there is, as Ira Glass said in an intro, anything that "acknowledges the existence of sex in this story, though with no explicit scenes, words, or ideas." And we will always have a "safe" evergreen episode available as a replacement.
No. We are distributed by NPR, but our agreement lets us allow non-NPR stations run the series as well.
